SPRING/SUMMER 2011
BALENCIAGA
Mood/style:
Nicolas Ghesquière doesn’t betray his fans’ expectations and, beyond having chosen certain top models like Gisele, Amber, Carolyn and Stella, together creating a new face for the catwalk, he astonishes by revisiting some of the fashion house’s cults. Like the houndstooth used as motifs for macro-prints on small coats, short jackets, and leather skirts or for the fabrics of tops and loose skirts that are completely covered in micro-sequins. Masculine shirts choose hi-tech fabrics, embroidered and printed with floral motifs or lace, and underneath, a glimpse of contrasting plastron ties. But the wealth of the research of Nicolas, who experiments with coverings on different surfaces and resin lamination, doesn’t stop. It follows through in the models and cuts: geometric tops with differently coloured inserts and transparent-fabric skirts with contrasting borders. The collection is a mix of tailoring technologies and hi-tech manufacturing such as laser cutting. Decidedly masculine shoes accentuate the tomboy look
