Styling Ann Hathaway

Posted by ElenaPearl
Celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe definitely had her work cut out for her when she dressed Anne Hathaway for the Oscars. With the actress co-hosting the prestigious ceremony, Zoe pulled together a total of eight outfits - from red carpet, to stage, to the Vanity Fair party.

"It was the Oscars! There’s no margin for error," says Zoe, who describes Hathaway as one of her muses. "The difference is normally when you’re doing red carpet, you do fittings in a studio, and we sort it out from there. And then she does the carpet and then she sits in the seat and goes to the after-party. This time, she’s working that stage, she’s moving around, she’s singing, she’s dancing. The clothes weren’t only custom and couture, but they actually had to be functional. She had to be able to move."

And Zoe, who reveals that Hathaway often danced around during fittings to ensure she'd be able to move well on the night, decided to spread the love when it came to designer choices. "Overall, it was the perfect mix of designers," she says. "We had Givenchy, Armani, Tom Ford, Vivienne Westwood, Oscar de la Renta. We literally went international — Brits, Italians, Americans. We tried our best to spread it out." Also included were Versace, Valentino and Lanvin.

And, ever the gracious client, Hathaway insisted that Zoe get some rest on the night. "I was [backstage] in the beginning, and then my team stayed on," says the stylist. "I came back. Annie was like, 'You’re nine months pregnant. You need to go.'"

Tireless Zoe had some more work on display on Sunday night - she also styled Cameron Diaz, Eva Mendes and Liv Tyler for the Vanity Fair bash.
