SPRING/SUMMER 2011
HERMES
Mood/style:
for his last collection as the creative director at Hermès, Jean-Paul Gaultier has staged a real “ Homage à l’ Héritage”. A show entirely conceived as a celebration of the house's origins, founded in 1837 by Thierry Hermès, a saddler whose artisan workshop used to produce valuable horse harnesses appreciated by the high society. Therefore the equestrian theme is splendidly represented by real horsemen wearing elegant white shirts and mounting marvellous thoroughbreds in a real manège with real clay that turns into a catwalk where sensually sway models styled as Andalusia Amazons with a “gaucho” passionate twist. An 'au revoir' in style, joyful and respectful of a brand that has founded its identity on its noble heritage, renovating from time to time yet still maintaining its incomparable tradition of excellence
Lengths:
skirts are calf-length or floor-length
Colours:
natural and elegant colors like sable, tan, caramel, hazelnut, mahogany: warm accents brought by signature Hermès blood red and orange. Touches of black add drama and perspective
Fabrics:
rawhide, napa leather, chiffon, silk crepe, cotton poplin, suède
Shapes:
a sporty allure, feminine-masculine yet sensual. The silhouette is inspired by equestrian sports: jodhpurs that become leggings, riding jackets featuring a sharp cut, Amazon-style draped skirts, jackets butterfly-cut in the back. Rawhide bustier dresses, almost corsets, worn over men's shirts and straight calf-length skirts or contrasting with long chiffon dresses. Shawls with long fringes accentuate the gaucho inspiration. Fluid high-waist pants paired with chic blouses
Accessories:
riding boots, high-heeled open-toe shoes and front crossing; wicker platforms; gaucho hats; Kelly bags in a transparent version, in wicker or ultra-lush leather
