SPRING/SUMMER 2011
LOUIS VUITTON

the room was half-darkened, the runway was in shiny faux-marble, and ended with a beaded "boudoir" curtain, with two life-sized stuffed tigers mounted on pedestals on either side. The message that Marc Jacobs wants to launch is already clear: this will not be a minimal fashion show. What it was, was a carousel of inspirations, citations and references that were mixed together in the Louis Vuitton S/S 2011: the China of the Red Lanterns, camp, Kansai Yamamoto, Kenzo, Walter Abini and the '20s and '30s, a touch of vintage Léonard, Art Deco, Art Nouveau, the lights of the Eiffel Tower. Everything gets magically blended together with Jacobs' triumphantly clever hand as he affirms his provocative, "maximal" spirit which pays no heed to the current trends. And he sprinkles everything with a generous dose of sex-appeal and glamour, qualities that never go out of fashion
