NYC FASHION WEEK
SPRING/SUMMER 2011

Best of DAY 5

JENNY PACKHAM
"I was thinking of all the young girls dreaming of going to that big ball for the first time," said Brit tansplant Jenny Packham before the start of her Spring 2011 show. Showing RTW in Gotham for the first time, the St. Martins graduate didn't disappoint with a dazzling array of red carpet showstoppers. Packham practically offered up dozens of red carpet jackpots for stylists to covet with her masterful bead and chiffon work. The golds, metallics, and hand-painted prints were comprehensively photogenic stunners that seemed to beatifully reference the ghosts of Hollywood in 1934.

TRACY REESE
An island girl at heart, Tracy Reese’s easy and breezy Spring 2011 collection is perfectly suited for a Spring brunch in Soho or strolling the marina in St. Barths. Though she’s known for reinterpreting vintage, this collection was modern, fresh, and effortless, and she created a quintessential wardrobe that perfectly transitions from the weekday to the weekend. She showed cropped jackets and feminine trench coats mixed with shorts or tailored pants, topped with dolman sleeved knitwear for the urban chicette. For the weekend getaway, her cotton sundresses and maxi dresses were in colorful batik or island prints, and flirty cape sleeves balanced A-line silhouettes. Fun and flirty, Tracy Reese makes us wish that summer would never end.

DIESEL BLACK GOLD
Diesel has struck Black Gold in its sophomore collection designed by Sophia Kokosolaki, which has elevated this collection to the next level. Veering away from their predominantly denim and monochromatic '80s-inspired collections, Spring 2011 had a luxe feel, combined with a sexy boho-chic look based on San Francisco during the summer of love. Kokosalaki used an earth-toned palette with a majority of the pieces created from treated and burnished leathers, influenced by the late '60s and early '70s arts and crafts movement with artisanal detailing on cropped and fitted jackets, pairing them with leather shorts or high-waisted flare bottom jeans. Alternatively, the silhouette for the men’s collection was pegged stovepipe jeans.
