Donna KaranNothing could ever happen unless we all get together,” said Donna Karan as she welcomed guests including Calvin Klein, Italo Zuchelli, Bruce Weber, Richard Chai, Prabal Gurung and Adam Lippes to the 15th Annual Holiday Dinner benefiting the AIDS Community Research Initiative of America (ACRIA). Each December, art enthusiasts pack into the Karan’s Urban Zen Center for a cocktail party, dinner, and silent art auction to support the organization. “It’s one of these events that people really clamor to get," said host Ariel Foxman. "I wish we had more seats at our table!” Other hosts included Ross Bleckner, Bob Colacello, Francisco Costa, Martha Nelson and Isabel Rattazzi.

“Here’s the problem right now,” said Adam Lippes as he surveyed pieces from contemporary artists including Terence Koh and Bleckner. “I just came back from Art Basel. So I’m like, my dad talked to me about an art budget, and my art budget for next year is gone,” he admitted. “The best thing here is that the art is recycled, because we get to keep the money for charity!” Fracisco Costa told The Daily, mingling with the likes of Fabiola Beracasa, Allison Sarofim, Elettra Wiedemann, and Sheryl Schwartz all clad in Calvin Klein Collection, of course.

“I worked with Donna a long time ago,” said Chai. “It’s kind of a full circle moment." After guests made their bids and filled up on veggie spring rolls, tuna tartare, and mini truffle macaroni and cheese appetizers (magnifique!) it was time for the main event. While guests grazed on mixed green salads, Karan took the floor. “I hope that one year from now we won’t have to be here,” she said as she revealed her goal to eradicate HIV and AIDS.

The night’s honor went to Spyros Niarchos and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation for their enduring support of ACRIA. “Two years ago when the market crashed, we were embarrassed to ask people for money,” explained Rattazzi. “Then we received a letter from the Niarchos Foundation saying they would continue to support ACRIA and double their contribution.”

After dinner, guests got one last glimpse at the pieces for sale. The most popular item? “There really isn’t anything that would make you sad,” said Foxman. “I actually bought a piece here two years ago that still hangs in my apartment.” Really!
