(NEW YORK) Ikram Goldman, the mastermind behind the eponymous Chicago boutique Ikram, is expanding her storefront to 15 E. Huron Street this year. The 16,480 square-foot building will be a more spacious environment for Goldman, where rumor has it she might house men's apparel and a cafe along with contemporary womenswear. Ikram's original location, now at 873 N. Rush Street, solely focuses on women's apparel. News of a larger flagship on Huron comes days within the announcement that Goldman will receive the School of the Art Institute of Chicago's Legend of Fashion Award on May 5 presented by her good friend and T: The New York Times Style Magazine editor Sally Singer. Anna Sui, Maria Pinto, and Nicole Miller have previously won the award.
Goldman is most widely known for her unofficial stylist status for First Lady Michelle Obama. However, Cathy Horyn announced a shift in the White House staffing by stating in The New York Times: "For what it’s worth, I hear that Ikram Goldman, the Chicago retailer, is no longer directly involved with Mrs. Obama’s wardrobe, since December." Ikram Goldman could not be reached for comment.
