(NEW YORK) They're no Globes—and they're no Oscars—but the Screen Actors Guild Awards still have publicists scrambling to dress the stars. It was a big night for Carolina Herrera, who dressed January Jones in a demure—and welcome—counterpoint to all that Versace in a black and gold chantecaille lace gown. Edie Falco went for a sexier CH: a strapless "cerise" fils coupe number. It was an equally major moment for Oscar de la Renta, who dressed Jennifer Lawrence in an electric pink number with a black ribbon belt, Tina Fey in a crimson lace column, and Lea Michele in a blush, draped sequin gown. And it was an extraordinary night for Alberta Ferretti, who outfitted Winona Ryder (of all people!) in a frothy strapless white tulle confection that became the evening's most memorable look. Well done, Ali Wise and La Chambre PR. That team also put rising star Kelly MacDonald in a stunning black Reem Acra, which was well-styled with loose locks and minimal baubles.
Other hits: Natalie Portman in white strapless Azzaro column with Tiffany & Co. baubles, Hilary Swank in a draped nude Versace that was probably the evening's most flattering frock, if not particularly daring, and Amy Adams in a white draped Herve Leroux number that is sure to end up on "inspiration" pages in Martha Stewart Weddings. Claire Danes looked delightful, charming, and delightfully charming in a floral Louis Vuitton. Kim Kardashian in a plum draped Marchesa number with silver beading? Less successful. Julianna Marguiles sported a basic red bustier-style gown from Yves Saint Laurent Edition Soir, while youngster Hailee Steinfeld daringly sported a striped take on Prada's Spring 2011 collection, to great effect. (Speaking of, when do those platform oxfords hit stores? BG, call us.) Rosario Dawson did buttercream J.Mendel, Sofia Vergara opted for a plunging-neckline Roberto Cavalli, and all is basically well with the world. Click through our Gallery for more photos.
