Albert Watson and Juergen Teller. Antithetical photographers. But united by a passion for portraits. Now celebrated with exhibitions and books
Two different generations, styles, approaches, at the limit of antithetical: Albert Watson and Juergen Teller are leaving a unique mark on photography. Especially fashion photography. And not only: their way of portraying celebrities – actors, singers, artists, politicians – prove how it is still possible to astonish and innovate with a genre, that of portrait, precisely, as old as the photographic medium itself.
Hotel Il Pellicano is coming out in Italy published by Rizzoli: two hundred images dedicated to the as famous as it is exclusive hotel in Porto Ercole. In the volume the history of the renowned haunt for various generations of the international jet set is told through the vintage photographes by John Swope and Slim Aarons, and a series of portraits taken by Teller during a glamorous party in June 2009.
Meanwhile, at the Fotografiska museum in Stockholm recently opened and remaining open until June 12, is a large retrospective of Albert Watson's oeuvre: a true homage to his career.
