SPRING/SUMMER 2011
ANN DEMEULEMEESTER
Mood/style:
though typical spring collections offer a cascade of searing colors and floral motifs, Ann Demeulemeester went for classic with her Spring Summer 2011 show, using only white with black brushstrokes to paint her minimalist canvas. What the show lacked in color, it made up for with expertly tailored pieces, cut and re-imagined with an eye towards the avant garde. Funnel necked sleeveless leather tops revealed alluring asymmetric cut outs in the back, secured by a complex network of thin straps, bows, and clasps. Black halter -tops cascaded into ruffles and drapes, while one-shoulder jackets with extraneous straps and flaps accented thin cut pants
Colours:
flash white, onyx, black. Abstract prints in black and white
Lengths:
the focus was on asymmetry. Fluid jersey skirts in pitch black swept the floor on one side, with the other side flirting at thigh level. Pants were ankle length. Jackets were cropped to just above the waist
Fabrics:
leather, sturdy cotton, voile, jersey
Shapes:
triangular geometry figured heavily in the show, with sharp cut flaps hanging over the sides of jackets and dresses. Triangular cutouts also revealed swaths of sheer fabric and skin
Accessories:
open toe boots in sturdy black or white leather. Netted metallic fabric was worn over the eyes, secured by a thin metal band
